About TidesTime

Clear tide information, computed close to the source

TidesTime is an independent tide information service for coastal visitors, boaters, researchers, and anyone who wants a practical view of high and low water around the world.

01

What the service provides

The site brings tide stations, daily high and low tide times, multi-day tide curves, monthly calendars, maps, sun and moon information, and short-term weather into one lightweight experience.

You can browse by continent or country, open a specific station, search for a place, or enter coordinates for a model-based prediction. The station library is maintained from live database records rather than a fixed list in the page code.

02

How predictions are calculated

Station predictions use locally computed harmonic constituents, including the main lunar and solar tides. A datum offset is applied where available so that results are aligned with the station's chart datum. When that offset is unavailable, the page labels the result as referenced to mean sea level.

Coordinate predictions use the NASA GOT5.5 tide model through pyTMD. Weather and astronomical information are supporting context and are not inputs to the harmonic tide calculation.

03

Data and attribution

TidesTime combines public station metadata and harmonic data from NOAA, UHSLC, IOC, and TICON-4, together with NASA GOT5.5 for model-based point predictions. Weather information is supplied by Open-Meteo under CC BY 4.0. Map tiles are provided by Esri.

Source names and the applicable reference datum are shown where they are relevant to a prediction. Data can be incomplete or outdated at some locations, and station availability can change over time.

04

Accuracy and safe use

Astronomical tides are forecasts, not live water-level measurements. Wind, atmospheric pressure, storms, river flow, and local bathymetry can produce substantial differences from the predicted curve, especially in estuaries and shallow coastal waters.

TidesTime is for general information only. It is not a navigation, flood-warning, engineering, or safety-critical service. Always use official local notices, current observations, charts, and professional judgment before making decisions near the water.

Contact

Questions, correction requests, and data-source inquiries can be sent to contact@tidestime.com. When reporting a station issue, include the station URL, date, and a brief description of the problem.
